Real humor for real families
Parents Need This Book!
I laughed so hard

A worthy addition to one's collectionI am a bread baker who likes a plain, "honest" loaf of bread, not enriched with a lot of fruit, vegetables, nuts and cheeses. If I want that kind of bread, I make something like cinnamon buns or a stollen or something. This book is full of recipes that use a variety of these ingredients, and that is a style to which I personally do not adhere. There are recipes that require such things as pumpkin, carrots, and other things not normally found in regular loaf breads.
That said, the recipes in this book are top notch. I have made a few of the more "plain" recipes, and the results have never been less than exceptional. Even if I do not bake in the style presented in this book, I cannot fault the recipes. It's a style issue, not a quality issue.
The book is full of very interesting and informative tidbits that make this book an interesting read in addition to being a cookbook. One section describes the origin of doughnuts (and specifically, the hole in the middle). Another describes an interesting account of where Anadama bread gained its name.
This book has no photographs. Rather, it has lots of pencil drawings to go along with many of the carefully written recipes. The instructions are easy to follow, but the drawings add a nice touch that make the recipes even more complete in many places.
Overall, this book is very well written and organized.
This book has an exceptional recipe for Monkey Bread, the best I have used so far.
If you want a large collection of "plain" recipes, I recommend you look at something else instead of this book. However, if you like variety and you enjoy recipes that make use of unusual ingredients for bread (at least as far as normal loaf bread is concerned), this book will serve you exceedingly well. It's a great book for the adventuresome baker.
In a 250+cookbook library, this ranks at the top.
Practical and delicious

Great History

This is an excellent counseling tool for troubled youthDuring the course of the story, Buddy is sent to live with an older couple who are the owners of Canterbury Camp. The couple demonstrates unconditional love toward Buddy and the other teenage boys who live at the camp; thus cultivating an atmosphere of inner healing and revitalization of broken hearts and spirits. Buddy and the other teenage boys are given a second chance at their lives, while incorporating positive character changes.
The author stresses intergrity a great deal in her book, and the importance of developing a sense of overall purpose for one's life which is essential for the main character to develop.
I applaud Ms. Jones for writing such a brilliant piece of work at such a time as this; youth today need guidance and character keys such as intergrity that will enable them to become future leaders of tomorrow equipped with strong moral and personal values.
My desire is to see this book at every grade school and high school across the country as a counseling tool to help troubled youth. This book is a necessary counseling tool and if you are a counsellor like myself whether in the field of law or social work or teaching . . . "Buddy Goes to Canterbury Camp" would provide and answer countless questions that one might have on the topic of troubled youth.
This is a masterpiece -- we should all hope for a sequel.
Excellent tool for instilling integrity into today's youth
a book every mother and child should read

Recipes are great - taste great and down to earth

Carrot On A StickI found myself unable to put it down, and if books were rated by smiles then this one is worth a mile of them.
Carrot On A Stick Is More Then Just A BookAs soon as you begin to read you immediately find yourself connecting to the Author, Billy Jones. This is a man who has "been there done that" so to speak. You find yourself in his poems and your father in his short stories. He shares real life experiences, with brutal honesty. He gives you an inside look at his life from past to present, as well as a look into what your own future will hold. As you read you will find yourself lost in the magical rhythm of his words.
Laughter seems to be one of this authors best medications for the soul. He will leave you in stitches with poems like " Drunkards prayer" and " A Traffic Jam at Wal-Mart."
He also knows how to tug at your heart strings, and gets your mind rolling with short stories like, "One Mans Dreams" and "What Are You Scared Of?"
This book comes from the heart of a man, not at all unlike you and I. He has been down and out and back up again. He gives his readers inspiration through poems, verses, and short stories.
To sum up Carrot On A Stick, I would have to say, it will make you laugh, cry, hurt, get angry, and most of all teach you something about yourself.
I have read many books, but have never found one that has touched my heart, and opened my mind like Carrot On A Stick Has done.
Carrot On A StickI showed it to my wife and she loved it. I'm going to have to get me another copy though cause I lent my copy out and it never came back. Sorry Amazon but I'll see Billy at the bar sometime and get another signed copy.
